Which Home Made Hair Mask to Use for Your Hair? Many Types of Hair Masks Explained



Doing hair masks is an excellent way to take care of your hair, they protect hair from environment influence, help to make scalp healthier, exfoliate it to provide better nutrition for hair and breathe strength into it. How often should hair masks be used? It all depends on hair condition - if hair need some treatment, better to use it 2-3 times a week.



If hair is healthy it is enough to use hair mask once a week to make hair silky and smooth. It is reasonable to change a hair mask you use, for example alternate nutrition masks with moisturizing masks. Homemade hair masks are effective and usually don't cause allergies.

Using homemade masks


You should apply fresh made mask just after you have prepared it. You can  store some of homemade masks in refrigerator for 1-2 days, but for most of them it is always better to prepare one portion of mask. Choose hair masks according to your hair and scalp type. Wrong mask can make your hair look worse.

Before applying warm up the mask to a comfortable temperature using water bath or just put bowl with mask in hot water for some time - warm up mask will work better.

 If you apply mask on clean hair then do light massage to your scalp, it will increase blood flow in scalp and will help absorption and distribution of nutrients (especially good for dry hair and scalp). If you apply mask not to freshly washed hair it is not recommended to do massage - do not rub dust and styling products in to skin.

Keep mask on your hair exactly specified time and wash hair with plenty of water afterward. If you applied mask on clean hair - don't use shampoo when washing it off, just water will be enough.

One of the most popular ingredients in homemade masks is clay. Hair masks based on clay absorb dirt, clean scalp and hair, stimulate microcirculatory and provide antiseptic effect. Clay hair mask adds more body to hair.

White clay helps from falling out, green - from seborrhea, yellow - from dandruff, red clay will calm down irritated scalp, blue will clean and protect hair, fill it with oxygen. Clay is usually sold in pharmacies.

Homemade masks for normal hair and scalp



  • Mix equal portions of burdock oil and nettle extract, apply to clean wet hair. Rinse with warm water after five minutes.



  • Mix 1 tea spoon of blue clay, 1 egg yellow, 1 tea spoon of honey, 1 tea spoon of lemon juice, 1 tea spoon of butter and 1 tea spoon of mustard. Mix everything carefully, rub into hair roots and on whole hair length. Wear a shower hat and wrap your head with towel, wait like that for 1-2 hours. Wash your hair as usually.



  • Mix 1 tablespoon of carrot juice, 1 table spoon of lemon juice, 1 table spoon of aloe juice, 1 table spoon ok cognac (brandy), 1 egg yellow and 1 table spoon of castor oil. Apply the mixture on hair and leave it there for 30 minutes, then wash your hair usually.



  • Mix vegetable and sea-buckthorn oil in proportions 1:9. Rub mixture to hair roots and wear a shower hat. In one hour wash your hair with shampoo for dry hair. Repeat 2 times a week for 5 weeks.



  • Mix 1 table spoon of castor oil, 1 table spoon of olive oil and 1 tea spoon of shampoo for dry hair. Rub the mixture to scalp, then wear a shower hat and wrap head with towel. In two hours wash with warm water. Try not to use shampoo.


Homemade hair masks for dry hair and scalp


Mix 1 egg, 2 table spoons of castor oil, 1 tea spoon of glycerin and 1 tea spoon of vinegar. Apply to hair, wrap it with warm towel and leave for 40 minutes. Wash hair with shampoo.

Mix 1 egg and 6 tablespoons of natural yogurt (without coloring agents). Leave on your hair for 10-15 minutes.

Grind in blender 150gr of marrow, wring out the juice and mix it with 0.5 glass of milk and 1 table spoon of olive oil. Put the mixture to hair and leave for 20 minutes.

Mix 1 egg, 1 tea spoon of glycerin, 1 tea spoon of vinegar and 2 table spoon of castor oil. Rub the mixture to hair roots and whole length and leave for 30-40 minutes. Wrap head with warm towel. When towel will get cool, change it for a warm towel. Repeat the procedure 1-2 times a week.

Warm up sour clotted milk till 37 C degrees (98.6 F) and apply generously on hair. The cover head with butter-paper and wrap head with towel. In 20-30 minutes apply warm clotted milk again and massage scalp with your finger tips for 3-5 minutes. Rinse you head with hot water without shampoo.

Mix 2 egg yellow, 2 table spoons of burdock oil, 3 table spoons of arnica tincture (you can buy it in pharmacy) or 1 egg yellow, 1 table spoon of mayonnaise, 1 tea spoon of honey and 2 cloves of garlic. Rub mixture to hair roots and whole length and leave for 30-40 minutes. Wear a shower hat and wrap your head with towel. Repeat 1-2 times a week.

Homemade masks for oily hair and scalp



  • Grind 1 red pepper and mix it with 2 tablespoons of kefir and 1 table spoon or clay. Mix carefully and apply to hair for 20-30 minutes.



  • Grind 3 tablespoons of mint leaves and 2.5 glass of ashberry. Apply the mixture to hair and wrap hair with towel for 10 minutes. Then shampoo.



  • Grind 1 apple and mix it with 2 table spoons of apple vinegar and 2 table spoons of lemon juice. Apply the mixture to hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Then shampoo.



  • Mix 1 tea spoon of honey, 1 tea spoon of lemon juice, 1 clove of garlic, 1 table spoon of agave juice. Apply mixture to wet hair, wear a shower hat and wrap head with towel. Wash hair in 30-40 minutes with warm water, no shampoo.


Homemade hair masks that prevent hair loss



  • Mix 2 egg yellow, 1-2 table spoons of burdock oil, 1 table spoon of castor oil,2 table spoons of honey and 1 tea spoon of cognac. Warm up the mixture and apply to hair. Wear a shower hat and wrap your head with towel. Wait for 1-2 hours. Wash away with warm water. Repeat 2-3 times a week.



  • Mix 1 egg yellow, 1 table spoon of honey and 1 table spoon of peach and cabbage juice. Apply to hair and leave for 2 hours. Rinse with water after it. Repeat every week for 3 months.



  • Mix colorless henna with warm kefir. Apply mixture to hair and leave for 30 minutes. This hair mask wont just make your hair stronger but it will also make your hair shinny. Repeat weekly.



  • Mix 2 egg yellow, 1 tea spoon or garlic juice, 1 tea spoon of honey and aloe. Apply mixture on wet hair and wear a shower hat then wrap your head with towel. Leave for 20 minutes then wash away. To get rid of garlic smell rinse your hair with water with dry mustard.
