What To Do With Leftover Pumpkin

Everyone loves Halloween and there's plenty of reasons for that - all that candy, all that dressing up, all those pumpkin pies and spiced latte's from your local coffee shop...

The only problem with Halloween of course, is the serious amount of leftover pumpkin you have from the carving sessions you enjoyed with your children.

There's only so many times you can eat pumpkin pie. There's only so many times you can give them away too. After a while, pumpkin pie just doesn't cut it and neither does any other pumpkin-related recipe for that matter. It's a good thing that Halloween only comes around once a year right?

You may have had enough of eating this humble food but for beauty purposes, you simply cannot get enough of this rich, orange flesh and you should be grateful for your leftover pumpkin! Nutrient-packed and full of antioxidants, it's the perfect remedy for skin that's been well treated to a summer full of sun. If you've been worshipping the rays and need to offer your body some TLC, the vitamin A in the flesh of the pumpkin will help to both soften and soothe while the vitamin C content offers those powerful antioxidant properties to help fight back against cancer.

Pumpkin & Apple Spiced Face Mask

To offer the skin on your face an all-round treatment, this leftover pumpkin and apple spiced face mask is perfect. Not just offering vitamin A to help sunburnt and element-battered skin, there's moisturizing and exfoliating properties brought into the mix. This helps to strip the skin from makeup and cosmetic residue and brings it back to a much more natural finish.

The natural fruit acids are what work their magic in your face mask - not too strong to damage the skin but just enough to slough off the old cells. When those are gotten rid of, the water-packed fruit helps to rejuvenate new cells into growing, giving you a much clearer complexion.

To make a pumpkin and apple spiced face mask simply blend the following ingredients until you have a smooth puree:

*If you have sensitive skin, miss out the cinnamon. You could also consider adding a touch of nutmeg. In fact nutmeg has been said to have anti-inflammatory properties which is great if you suffer with acne!

Once you have made your puree out of leftover pumpkin, you have a mask that can be used not just on the face but on other areas of the body too. The soft-harshness in all those natural fruit acids are great for helping to fight back against dead skin cells on your feet so you could also use this on that area too. You could even throw in some white or brown sugar to make it an exfoliant or body scrub. This is a great idea for the really hard to deal with skin on your feet.

Other areas in which you could use this mask include on your elbows, knees, and other areas of the body you suffer with dry or tough skin.

Simply apply the mask to the affected area and leave for ten minutes or as long as you can sit still for. Wash it off, pat dry with a towel and you'll feel the results almost instantly. Your skin will be much 'cleaner' than it felt before and it'll also feel softer too.

For a super-quick fix for blemishes and acne-affected skin, you could rub the inner flesh of your leftover pumpkin over your face. With vitamins E and T or torulitine (said to work against acne), the anti-inflammatory properties will make redness appear less obvious and can also help to reduce the size of your pores. You could even blend a small piece of pumpkin together with milk for a runnier beauty product - this time a toner which can be used after washing your face.

There are so many ways you can use leftover pumpkin especially when it comes to creating homemade beauty recipes. There are so many benefits to be had from using this orange seasonable fruit on your skin too. Not just your skin - your hair, bones, teeth, nails and more. This is a food packed with plenty of good nutrients that your body is crying out for. If you're sick of eating it, perhaps it's time to start using it in your beauty regime instead?
